Why support this cause?
Did you know:
- One in four high school age girls in the United States does not graduate?
- 150 million girls under age 18 are victims of sexual violence each year?
- The biggest issues facing girls today are violence, negative body image and bullying?
Soroptimist International of the Americas learned this, and much more, through research conducted with girls around the world. And then they went to work developing a program to address the issues girls face. Soroptimist Dream it, Be it: Career Support for Girls (DIBI) is one of our signature “Dream” programs developed to help teen girls develop the confidence they need to pursue their dreams. In 2018 Soroptimist International of Mission Valley (SIMV) launched our very own DIBI program at Kearny High. Working with 20 young women, meeting once a month from February through June, we offered three of the seven available mentoring modules to help them:
- Discover Their Dreams
- Create Achievable Goals, and
- Rise Above Obstacles
Our dream is to offer the full 7-module program beginning in 2019 either in a monthly format or as a one-day conference. SIMV is dedicated to helping as many women and girls as we can. As a new club, we have not yet raised as much money as we would like. We need your help! Your donation will help us underwrite the costs associated with the DIBI program.
